Day 3 Petting zoo but no petting

A six-hour overnight motor to Genovesa Island.  A bit on the rough side.  After ‘kinda-shower’ my stomach was ready for bed, (around 8:45).  We arrived at at Darwin Bay around 3:00am.  Slept better till 7am breakfast.  Then an extraordinary walk on Genovesa Island.  A 2km walk among amazing birds that were totally unafraid of humans.  Endless variety and numbers.

After a snack on the boat, back out again.  This time for a ’wet landing’.  Two types of landings off the boat, a ’wet landing’ is barefoot or sandals and protect anything that isn’t waterproof like cameras. (When going ashore).   Also, for snorkeling, we may just hop off the dinghies for paddling about.  A ‘dry landing’ is walking shoes and a rock step.  Fairly clear water, photos below.

After lunch, back out again for a guided walk.  Again endless birds and now dozens of sea lions.  Amazing to get within a few feet of them and watch them sleep and fight.  A good day.

Mama and chick.  Again, we can walk right up to these animals.  No fear.  Amazing.
