In transit, rush hour at 3:30am??

California is finally getting some weather!  At home, we have had over 6 feet of snow and 10 inches of rain in the last 5-6 weeks.  And, that type of weather forces airports to be creative, (read slow) in their operations.  So, in preparation for a weather 'event' this morning, we left the house at 2am for a 7am flight that was delayed until an 8:40 takeoff.

Well, the weather wasn't that bad, but it was bumper to bumper at 3:30 in the morning!  And, Starbucks had a line of people caffeinating ready to jump into the fray.  Living in the country makes for a long drive to the airport, (sporadically), but living in the city makes for a long drive to work, (daily).

A routine flight from San Francisco to Miami, layover was short, but an uneventful flight to  Guayaquil, our "port of entry" into Ecuador.  Our last leg was on a 'vintage' 767.  Broken seat, ceiling TV's, overhead bins that would barely fit a backpack and it creaked, especially when we landed.  Rocking chairs creak, not aircraft.

A $5 taxi to our hotel.  In Chicago, they won't close the doors for $5!  A nice 2-star hotel for $42.  We are in the heart of Ecuador.
