Our official tour of Ecuador started yesterday. We meet Paul, our guide. Nice guy, excellent English. You can tell he really enjoys guiding, I think we will have a great time in the coming 10 days. Next door to our hotel is Seminario Park, also known as Iguana Park. Because.....all of the green iguanas living there. It is just in front of a Neo-Gothic Cathedral with a huge statue of Simon Bolivar between the two. More on Simon later. So the grounds and trees are full of green Iguanas and the pool and ponds are full of koi and turtles. A busy place.
These guys have 'beards' the Galapagos iguanas didn't have. They also hang out in the trees in the square. Fun to photograph them but don't stand below them. They are well fed.
Something just isn't right when a pigeon is sitting on an iguana.
Next we climbed Santa Ana Hill. a 444 step pull to get a great view of Guayaquil. Not a bad hike except the heat and humidity continue. The afternoon is free for us the explore the Malecon 2000, the new riverside development in Guayaquil and different shops and markets. Orientation and dinner with the whole crew finished the day.
A great view of the old part of the city.
Protesters. They used to clog the sidewalks of downtown selling food and trinkets. The city moved them 6 miles out of downtown. They are not happy. We are.
